ABOUT

What began as a talk amongst dance professionals in Vancouver (Canada)

has expanded to an international research project.

This “symposium” is an ongoing discussion!

WE ARE ASKING THE QUESTIONS:

How is the “contemporary” expressed and perceived in a dance form normally labelled as

“traditional” or “classical”
Can we expand those perceptions and if so how?
How can we speak about or frame our work?
How can curation and programming expand to include dance forms not immediately labelled

“Western” or (big C) “Contemporary” dance

The initial Symposium will be three roundtable discussions held in three different places in the world:

Canada, Peru and India.

We hope to add talks, presentations, lectures, more roundtables and publications to our ongoing project.

Please let us know if you have anything to add to the conversation.
